We will learn the story and re tell it using our own words. We will develop our descriptive writing and describe life in the Stone Age. We will use the information given in the non-fiction section of the book to inform our own non-fiction writing. |

Art/Design |
The children will use fine paint brushes and water colours to produce animals found in cave art. They will experiment with making their own Stone Age paints using a variety of natural materials. |
The children will make real life observations of the human body and use these to draw different movements. They will learn to use different pencil grades to represent things such as movement and muscle tone.

We will investigate different artists from around the world and the techniques they have used. We will try and recreate their style when producing our own work. We will create masks inspired by traditional African masks.

We will investigate Van Gogh paining ‘Starry Night’ and how he created a reflective image in the water. We will create our own.

The children will develop and refine a range of techniques when sculpting with clay. We will investigate mosaics and how they were used in the Roman times. |

Science |
We will begin science by researching which materials were used during Stone Age times and how their properties helped them to be good at their job. The children will be taught how different rocks and fossils are formed. |
During our work on the human body we will look closely at nutrition. The children will become familiar with the different food groups and will be asked to use their knowledge to create a balanced weekly diet plan. They will also classify a number of carnivores and herbivores. |
The children will be exploring the difference between light and dark and investigating light sources, reflections and mirrors. Our practical enquiries will involve shadow challenges. |
We will learn what a plant needs to grow and to be healthy. We will look at different plants that grown in different environments. We will conduct experiments to explore the ideal conditions for healthy plant growth. We will look at how water travels through a plant. |
Children will investigate magnets and materials that are magnetic and non-magnetic. We will look at the differing strength of materials and what a magnetic field is. |

During this term we create a time line and the children will gain an understanding of when the Stone Age was. We will research how people lived and the tools and weapons the Stone Age people used. We will compare our lives to those of our great ancestors. |

We will look at the climate in different countries and why that is suitable for certain animals to live in.
